Companies That Give Back
It’s that time of year again, the time when teenagers all over the country walk across the stage (or gymnasium floor) and toss the tassel over to the left side. Family calendars fill up quickly with graduation parties. Checks are written and cashed. Maybe there is even a graduation in your family, your son or daughter celebrating with friends and family, saying goodbyes and enjoying their last summer before the semester starts in the fall.
And when that happens, you might want to send them off. A sort of college readiness box, or maybe even a mid-term care package(with Osana Soap of Course!). We’ve compiled a list of some possible goodies that you might want to consider sending your grad’s way, and all with a mind toward even more giving. We love companies that are using their platforms to make an impact in the world.
Companies That Give Back

Charity:Water: With Charity:Water, you can purchase a range of products that will equip your recent high school graduate for what lies ahead. Ranging from T-shirts to water bottles, coffee mugs to a bicycle (seriously, check it out), they have what your college freshman may find themselves wanting on campus come fall.

650+ Bars of Osana Shipped to Brazil

Because of the amazing Osana customer base we are able to share one of the latest "Follow Your Soap" stories. We are excited to share the news of a budding partnership with The Invictus Initiative. Invictus does great work all over the globe but we have partnered specifically with them for a special project where they are working with pregnant women through pregnancy centers within Brazil that they have existing relationships with. Osana sent over 650 bars of soap to a center that will sponsor and provide added protection for pregnant mothers and their families throughout the duration of the mother's pregnancy. Soap will be supplied through these centers and will help prevent mothers and family members from contracting zika virus, dengue fever and other mosquito-borne illnesses that can impact families and pregnant mothers. Malaria and yellow fever are other mosquito-borne illnesses that touch brazil although are not typically contracted around the location of the pregnancy center that Invictus and Osana will be working with although adding another layer of protection against the uncommon for that area is helpful. We look forward to a continued and long-term relationship with this center and others and will be excited to share reports from this initial baseline trip.
We are hopeful that the soap will bring peace of mind and practical all natural protection to the communities that are facing mosquito-borne viruses and illnesses. We want to thank you for your purchases as they are what make impacting communities possible and are the driving force of Osana. Thank you for sharing Osana with friends and family! Please don't stop. Continue to join us in the battle to to help eliminate preventable death caused by malaria, mosquito-borne viruses and sanitation-based illnesses.

Osana Goes to the Dominican Republic
We were fortunate to connect with Parkview Church located in Orland Park, IL. They reached out to us about a small team that was going to the Dominican Republic for a short term trip in a community called Tamboril. They were interested in travel sized bars for the team as well as some bars they could leave behind with one of the communities they served. Although, they purchased travel sized bars for their purposes we wanted to be sure to share what about what they are doing in the community.
Caitlin Courtney, our contact from Parkview Church, was fortunate to return to Tamboril for this trip and she sent back the following in regards to the soap...
"...the whole team used their soap while we were there. We did get bitten a little but I think we would have gotten eaten alive if we were not using the soap. Some people got more bites from tiny little noseeums than they did mosquitoes. I personally got bit a few times on my legs but other than that, I was fine! People seemed to enjoy the scent of the soap and how it cleaned as well. We were filthy by the end of each day so good soap was a must!"
Osana in the Dominican Republic
We are excited about future partnerships with Parkview through what they are doing worldwide to help those less fortunate and approaching it in a way that most benefits the people, communities, and countries they serve long term. Caitlin also shares more about the trip they went on through an interview by GO Ministries. Watch that story here... MY GO STORY – CAITLIN COURTNEY

Check back in the future to hear more about our relationship with Parkview as well as any future updates we receive about the soap that was left behind in Tamboril.

We are still working with the staff and founders at "The Way Home" to ensure the best way to introduce Osana into the community and what it looks like to have it be an option for malaria and mosquito prevention as well as contribute to the overall sanitation of the community. Osana is committed to finding ways to integrate into communities in a healthy way and impact it long term through our partners who are integrated heavily into communities and have forged meaningful relationships over time.

FOX News Zika Virus with Osana
FOX News Zika virus coverage is the best. Osana was recently interviewed on FOX 31 KDVR News to talk about the growing concerns with mosquito born illnesses, specifically Zika Virus, and how Osana is helping to fight these tragic issues around the world.
FOX News Zika
"The recent outbreak of the Zika virus has put mosquito-borne illnesses back in the spotlight, and one Colorado-based company is doing its part to be part of the solution.
Osana Bar is an all-natural mosquito repellent soap. Every time you buy a box, it donates a bar of soap to a country suffering from mosquito-borne illnesses.
“Osana’s whole mission is how do we prevent those preventable deaths,” co-founder Kenn Kelly said. “When you go to these villages and you see people suffering from things that are preventable that we don’t deal with in the U.S., it’s evident that we need to do something about it.”
The problem is global: 1.8 million people die every year because of malaria and sanitation-based illnesses.
“The big thing right now is Zika virus, but there’s West Nile, malaria, dengue. There are a ton of mosquito-borne illnesses and viruses,” Kelly said.
And Osana makes it easy for you to be a part of the solution.
“Someone buys a package of Osana and they’re buying three bars,” Kelly said. “The fourth bar represents the bar that we donated on their behalf.”
Check out the rest of the interview and video below!
Zika Virus
Recent cases of the Zika Virus have been reported in the U.S. It is wise to note travel notices to be aware if this virus may be near you.
Zika virus is spread to people through mosquito bites.

What is Zika Virus
The Zika virus was first discovered in Uganda in the Zika forest, where the virus derives its name, in 1947. The virus, transmitted through infected Aedes mosquitoes, was common in both Africa and Asia but spread to the Western Hemisphere through unknown reasons when a Zika outbreak hit Brazil in early 2015. Few people in this corner of the world have developed immune defenses to this virus, which has enabled the Zika virus to spread at an alarming rate.
Furthermore, not only is this virus transmitted through mosquito bites, but it can also be transmitted sexually by male carriers. And because only one in five persons infected show symptoms, it can be difficult for any individual to know whether or not they even carry the virus. Those that do show symptoms will exhibit a fever, a skin rash, conjunctivitis (red eyes), muscle and joint aches, and/or a headache. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of unknowns in this area of transmission.
Origins:
Prior to 2015, Zika virus outbreaks occurred in areas of Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Islands.
In May 2015, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) issued an alert regarding the first confirmed Zika virus infections in Brazil.
Areas with Zika
Currently, outbreaks are occurring in many countries. No local mosquito-borne Zika virus disease cases have been reported in US states, but there have been travel-associated cases.
Check out the CDC's List of travel notices and places that have the Zika Virus here.
Symptoms and Treatment
The most common symptoms of Zika are:
- fever
- rash
- joint pain, or conjunctivitis (red eyes).
- Other common symptoms include muscle pain and headache.
The incubation period (the time from exposure to symptoms) for Zika virus is likely to be a few days to a week. The illness is usually mild with symptoms lasting for several days to a week.
There is no vaccine or medicine to treat Zika infections. Sleeping, drinking of plenty of water, and avoiding sugar are the most effective ways to pass the virus.
The best strategy to stay safe from Zika is prevention. We suggest using all natural and nontoxic mosquito prevention before going outside.
Dangers of Zika for Pregnant Woman
According to the Center for Disease Control, "In early 2015, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) issued an alert regarding the first confirmed Zika virus infection in Brazil. The outbreak in Brazil led to reports of Guillain-Barré syndrome and pregnant women giving birth to babies with birth defects and poor pregnancy outcomes.
Zika virus can be spread from a pregnant woman to her unborn baby. There have been reports of a serious birth defect of the brain called microcephaly in babies of mothers who had Zika virus while pregnant."
Women who are pregnant should take caution traveling to places that have been infected with Zika.
It is important to note that most mosquito repellants are highly toxic and not safe for pregnant women to use. Considering that anything that you put on your skin is absorbed into your blood stream within 30 seconds, we suggest that pregnant woman use a non-toxic form of protection like Osana Antimosquito Soap- so both mom and baby will stay protected naturally without negative side effects.
How do You Protect Yourself?
How do you protect yourself and your loved ones? According to the World Health Organization, “the best form of prevention is protection against mosquito bites.” This is where Osana all natural mosquito soap comes in. The Soap That Saves. Osana soap utilizes all-natural ingredients to produce a natural mosquito repellent. So after the advisable three consecutive showers with this soap, you can ward off these pesky insects when you go camping next week, while you’re grilling hot dogs for the Fourth of July, or when you decide to finally mow the grass. And the best part? With your purchase of the Osana soap package, you will be donating an Osana bar to a community in need overseas: in Brazil, Uganda, Tanzania, Haiti, The Dominican Republic, or Ghana. These communities do not have the luxuries we enjoy or the same protection against mosquitoes that we often take for granted. 1.8 MILLION people die of mosquito and sanitation related illnesses every year. And with this Zika virus epidemic in tow, it is even more crucial for us to remedy this blatant lack of protection now.
